If so, this is the page for you! Listed below are links for each of the awards given to alumni by the Alumni Association. Click on the link of the award for which you'd like to nominate someone and you will be taken to the nomination form page. There you will find criteria for the award and a place for you to fill in information on the person you are nominating.
Nominations are collected throughout the year and are submitted to the members of the Awards Committee who then decide on the recipients of the awards. Persons who are nominated are not made aware of the nomination unless they are chosen to receive the award. When making a nomination, please include your name and contact information as you may be called upon to provide supporting documentation to uphold the nomination.
Distinguished Alumni Award for 2006
Jan Evans Thomas is a 1977 graduate with a degree in Business Administration and has maintained ties with the university through service on various alumni committees and on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Since her graduation, Jan has advanced within the ranks of state government while employed at the Texas Workforce Commission. Where she currently directs, manages and oversees the human resources operations, which consists of almost 4,000 people.
Jan has also served in numerous leadership roles in organizations that are committed to growth and development of women in the state government and the central Texas community. She has been a positive influence in the lives of other through her involvement in the Executive Women in Texas Government, Leadership Texas, Women in Public Sector and the State Agency Council to the Governor’s Commission for Women. And as chair for several of these organizations she has been responsible for organizing state-wide conferences and celebrations, many of which have involved well over 1,000 in attendance.
In 2000, Jan received the Outstanding Women in Texas Government Award after her employers nominated her for maintaining a standard of excellence for herself and her employees, while consistently extending opportunities for other women and encouraging women as the pursued their goals.
Through achieving such excellence, Jan has brought great honor to the university and in 2006 received the Distinguished Alumni Award.
